American soccer players have managed to earn a place in several important teams in Europe, one of the most representative is Christian Pulisic, who after a complicated spell at Chelsea in the Premier League, found stability at AC Milan in Serie A.

Captain America made a controversial comment in the Paramount documentary 'Pulisic' in which he said that there is discrimination against American soccer players in European leagues: "I don't want him to take my place here," was one of the phrases Pulisic said he heard at some point in his career, a topic he was asked about and on the Essentially Sports website they picked up his answers.

"That was a tough question. When you're asked the question, 'Do you think it exists?' Well, I think it showed in that clip where there's a lot of people saying that Americans are trash or that there are no good players. You could see that it's there, but at the same time, honestly, I never use that as an excuse in any way," Pulisic replied when asked about bias against American players.

Pulisic takes on the challenge of overcoming bias and rejects excuses

Despite the controversy and admitting that there were times when he was not favored by having to choose between him and another player, Pulisic refused to blame the coach and, on the contrary, used it as motivation.

"I never said, 'Oh, that's not fair.' It inspired me and drove me to want to be so much better, and improve, and say, 'You know what? I'm not even going to let this be a decision, a 50-50,'" Pulisic said, aware of the challenge of proving his quality and demonstrating the mentality instilled in him by his father not to make excuses. "It doesn't matter, you have to keep working, and if you're good enough, at the end of the day, you'll get through it all."
