Antonio Conte's seemingly imminent Inter exit could shake up Europe's transfer market this summer.
The Italian, despite leading Inter to their first Serie A title win in 11 years and ending Juventus nine-year stranglehold on the Scudetto, looks set to leave the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this week.
Conte is reportedly far from pleased by Inter president Steven Zhang and Inter owner Suning's decision to cut the club's wage bill by up to 20 percent, added to their need to earn close to 100 million euros from player sales. Conte, instead, believes that money needs to be spent to strengthen the current squad. The coach was informed of the club's decision to make cuts on Saturday, the day before Inter lifted the Scudetto, and he didn't respond well to the news.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the ex-Chelsea boss could leave the club by Thursday night, as they report that all that is left to decide is the terms of his contract's termination.
Inter's need to bring money in, as well as Conte no longer being at the club, could well see a number of big names leave this summer.
Romelu Lukaku
The Belgian has been phenomenal since joining Inter from Manchester United in 2019. In 95 appearances for the club, he has scored 64 goals and provided 16 assists.
Having been a player that Conte had wanted to work with for a long time before finally getting the chance at Inter, Lukaku and the coach developed a close bond and an excellent working relationship.
Without Conte at the club, Lukaku might be tempted by a move elsewhere. Former club Chelsea could be a potential destination, and if Inter need to bring in money...
Achraf Hakimi
The ex-Real Madrid full-back has arguably been the signing of the season in Serie A, playing an important role in Inter's title win, dominating his flank in a way similar to what Dani Alves used to do at Barcelona.
While Conte was never shy of highlighting Achraf's need to develop his defensive game earlier in the season, it's hard to argue that the Moroccan hasn't come a long way under the Italian.
Being one of the very best players in the world in his position, there is likely to be a market for his services this summer.
Lautaro Martinez
The Argentine admitted recently that he had come very close to joining Barcelona last summer, only for the Catalans' financial problems to prevent the deal from happening.
Inter, despite wanting to keep hold of Lautaro, might now have their hand forced. Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for him, and that could now come to fruition.
Other players who have a market
Alessandro Bastoni and Nicolo Barella are two of the hottest prospects in Italian football at the moment, and both had stellar 2020/21 seasons with the Nerazzurri. Each of them could command a healthy transfer fee should they have clubs who want to sign them.
