Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is considering legal action against his own club after they posted and then deleted a controversial TikTok video mocking the player for missing a crucial penalty.
The video, which was shared on Napoli's official TikTok profile, drew strong criticism from Osimhen's agent, Roberto Calenda, who branded it "unacceptable."
The incident comes on the heels of Napoli's lackluster start to the season, where they find themselves in seventh place on the Serie A table.
The frustration reached its peak during a recent match against Bologna, where Osimhen missed a penalty that could have secured victory for his team.
Osimhen apologized to Rudi Garcia for previous outburst
The TikTok video in question depicts Osimhen appealing for a penalty with a humorous, sped-up voiceover captioned, "Gimme penalty please," before showing the striker missing the spot-kick.
Agent Roberto Calenda did not mince words when addressing the situation: "What happened today on Napoli's official TikTok platform is not acceptable. A video mocking Victor was first made public and then, but now belatedly, deleted. A serious fact that causes very serious damage to the player and adds to the treatment that the boy is suffering in the last period between media trials and fake news. We reserve the right to take legal action and any useful initiative to protect Victor."
This controversy follows a recent incident where Osimhen was caught on camera berating coach Rudi Garcia after being substituted in a match. However, he later apologized to Garcia and his teammates for his outburst.
Napoli's penalty kick video appears to not be the only one deleted by the club on TikTok as another one calling Osimhen a "coconut" was widely circulated online but it has been deleted from the club's feed.
Napoli currently have over 4.5 million followers in the popular video platform.
Victor Osimhen on the move?
The timing of the TikTok video couldn't be worse for Napoli, as Osimhen's contract negotiations have reportedly stalled.
Despite being linked with several top clubs, including Manchester United and PSG, Osimhen's current deal with Napoli runs until June 2025, and his market value is estimated at $170 million.
Arsenal fan Piers Morgan even made a public plea for the 24-year-old to join the Gunners, expressing his disapproval of the treatment the striker received.
This controversy could potentially impact Osimhen's future with Napoli and lead to a more complicated contract negotiations.
It was also reported on social media that the striker deleted photos of him with Napoli from his Instagram profile, which would be another indicator of his anger with the club.
Osimhen's next move, both on and off the field, will undoubtedly be closely watched by football enthusiasts and pundits alike.
