Carabao Cup 2022-23: Draw, fixtures & guide

The Carabao Cup returns for its 63rd season in 2022-23 as 92 teams from the English football pyramid battle it out for silverware.

Liverpool are defending champions and will have designs on retaining the trophy, but they will face plenty of competition too. Clubs from the Premier League down to League One take part in the competition, which begins in August and concludes in February.

Carabao Cup third round draw

The draw for the 2022-23 Carabao Cup third round took place on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.

Premier League clubs - Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Leeds, Brighton, Newcastle and West Ham joined the 25 winners from the second round. There are 16 ties and no north-south split.

Games will be played on the week commencing November 7.

Manchester City versus Chelsea on November 9 and Manchester United versus Aston Villa on November 10 were chosen as the televised games.

Carabao Cup second round draw

The draw for the 2022-23 Carabao Cup second round took place on Wednesday August 10, 2022. It was held following the televised tie between Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland. Thirteen Premier League clubs enter the competition, along with two Championship teams, at this stage and they join the 35 winners from the first round.

Carabao Cup first round draw, fixtures and results

The first round of the Carabao Cup is divided into two sections: north and south.

Twenty-two teams from Championship are joined by 24 teams from League One and 24 teams from League Two. Games were played on the week commencing August 8.

Fixtures chosen for live TV broadcast were: Bradford City and Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland. Those games are being shown live on Sky Sports.

Who won the Carabao Cup last season?

Liverpool won the Carabao Cup in 2021-22. The Reds defeated Chelsea 11-10 on penalties after the game finished 0-0 in regulation and extra time.

Jurgen Klopp's side clinched silverware after Caoimhin Kelleher scored their 11th spot kick and Kepa Arrizabalaga missed Chelsea's 11th penalty.

The victory sealed Liverpool's ninth League Cup trophy, making them the single most successful team in the history of the competition.
