Nagelsmann, who was sacked by Bayern Munich last week, will be one of the most sought after managers in European football given his availability and the fact he can be appointed without having to play another club compensation in the summer.

Real Madrid are among the clubs already interested in the 35-year-old and joining a team already set-up for instant success my suit Nagelsmann.

The Blues have had an upsurge in results recently which has helped ease the pressure on Potter following a largely disappointing first season at Stamford Bridge.

But further negativity between now and the end of the season could still leave Chelsea’s owners with a decision to make and the fact Nagelsmann is readily available may be a factor.

Indeed, Levy is acutely aware of how difficult it is likely to be to attract Nagelsmann to Spurs given he is likely to have numerous options over the forthcoming weeks and months.

And the Spurs chairman has already started trying to determine the chances of successfully enticing Nagelsmann to north London and there is some hope that the head coach is ready to listen to what Tottenham have to offer.

The club have already compiled an exhaustive list of alternative candidates with Luis Enrique, Roberto De Zerbi, Marco Silva, Steve Cooper, Thomas Frank, Sergio Conceicao, Oliver Glasner and Ange Postecoglu among the names in the frame.

Mauricio Pochettino's return would appease sections of the fanbase but his appointment is rated as doubtful.

Levy may be required to play more of a central role than expected in the club’s search for a new manager given the uncertainty over managing director of football Fabio Paratici’s position.
