The Blades have been pursuing a deal for the Australian international all window but now face competition from Daniel Farke's Championship challengers.
The 25-year-old has made just three appearances for the Enzo Maresca's Foxes this term after falling out of favour at the King Power Stadium.
Meanwhile, Leeds - who currently sit fourth in the Championship table - are keen to bolster their defensive reinforcements this window.

The Championship side have also held talks over a loan deal for Connor Roberts at Burnley, with the Clarets giving the right back permission to travel and undergo a medical this afternoon.
The Wales international is open to making the switch ahead of the European Championship qualifying play-offs.
Roberts, 28, has made 88 appearances for the Clarets since joining from Swansea in 2021.
