  • Fellow pundit Joe Cole said it would be a 'travesty' for Kane not to win a trophy

Steven Gerrard hailed Harry Kane's overall game following his performance in England's 2-0 win over Ukraine, before claiming the Tottenham star has a 'big decision' to make over his club future.

Kane opened the scoring at Wembley with his 55th international goal, having become England's record goalscorer against Italy on Thursday.

The England captain's turned in Buyako Saka's cross after picking out his team-mate with a crossfield pass.

Gerrard focused on Kane's initial ball post-match with the Liverpool legend claiming his passing remains underrated, before praising the striker as a person.

The former England international then suggested Kane's club future would be on his mind, with just over a year remaining on his contract at Tottenham.

Kane is England and Tottenham's record goalscorer but is yet to win a trophy in his career

'It's not easy playing with your back to play,' Gerrard told Channel 4. 'He's one of the best passers of the ball in world football.

'He has absolutely everything and he's a fantastic person. He makes you proud to be an Englishman.

‘Listen I don't want to open a can of worms. He has a big decision to make.

‘I have been there, it was different for me, winning one trophy with Liverpool would have meant a lot to me.

‘He is different, he's not from Tottenham. The decision will be on his mind.'

Kane's contract situation has led to renewed discussion over his future, with the forward yet to secure major silverware despite his goalscoring feats.

Tottenham's hope of ending a 15-year trophy drought were dashed this month with a limp FA Cup exit to Championship Sheffield United followed by defeat against AC Milan in the Champions League last-16.

Joe Cole, left, claimed it would be a 'travesty' if Kane ends his career without silverware

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a potential £100million move in the summer

Joe Cole claimed there was a difference between Gerrard's decision to remain at Liverpool during his career to the situation facing Kane.

'The difference with Liverpool is its built on winning stuff,' Cole said.

'Kane has not won anything and for a player of his ability that is a travesty. It would be a travesty if he ended his career without winning anything.'
