Leicester pay heartwarming tribute to Craig Shakespeare ahead of Premier League return against Tottenham following former manager's death aged 60 earlier this month

Leicester have paid tribute to their former manager Craig Shakespeare ahead of their Premier League return against Tottenham.

Shakespeare, who was assistant to Claudio Ranieri during Leicester's incredible Premier League title success in 2015-16, passed away earlier this month aged 60 following a battle with cancer.

Ahead of the game at the King Power Stadium on Monday night, Leicester's Jamie Vardy and former Foxes player James Maddison, now of Tottenham, both laid flowers in memory of Shakespeare.

Wes Morgan, the captain of Leicester's 2016 side, also paid tribute to Shakespeare.

There was a minute's applause in tribute to Shakespeare prior to the game, with Nigel Pearson, who worked closely with him, in attendance. Players from both teams wore black armbands.

Shakespeare managed Leicester permanently between February and October 2017.

Earlier this month a statement from the League Managers Association read: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Craig Shakespeare.

‘Craig passed away peacefully this morning at home surrounded by his family. Whilst the family are immensely proud of his footballing achievements as both a player and a coach, to us, his family, he will always primarily be a loving and loved husband, father, son, brother and uncle.

'The loss is devastating to us all and we would ask that privacy be given at this incredibly difficult time as we try to come to terms with, and mourn, the loss of a very special person.'
