With Manchester City not in Premier League action this weekend, it was imperative that Arsenal showed an ability to bounce back from successive negative results against Bayern Munich and Aston Villa.

Anything other than a victory away to Wolves on Saturday would have all but ended the Gunners' title charge, especially with Liverpool and Manchester City with games in hand.

Yet, the North London club showed their maturity and were able to come away from the Midlands with a 2-0 victory.

It is a result that puts the team back to the top of the Premier League, although the fixture schedule is hardly kind to the Arsenal with Chelsea set to visit the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

Arsenal were able to manage Wolves effectively

The match itself was far from a classic, with Arsenal doing the exact job they needed to do. There was to be no end-to-end scramble akin to the end of the Arsene Wenger era, when Arsenal teams would try and respond to setbacks with swashbuckling attacking play.

More often than not, those efforts would backfire and Mikel Arteta was not willing to risk that with his team still in the hunt for the title.

The first-half was a tepid affair with Arsenal clearly showing the impact of their midweek exertions, although Wolves themselves were down to the bare bones due to injuries.

It seemed as though both teams were eager for this match to be played at a pace below what we have come to expect from the Premier League.

Arsenal's breakthrough would finally arrive on the cusp of half-time, with Leandro Trossard putting the visitors 1-0 up in injury-time of the first-half.

The goal itself was one of the rare examples of excellence of the evening with Arsenal putting together a fine passing move which culminated in Gabriel Jesus being one-on-one with the goalkeeper, however he elected to square the ball to Trossard who finished calmly.

The second-half was rather similar with Arsenal again waiting until injury-time to find the net. This time it was Martin Odegaard who secured a vital three points with a well-taken finish.
