The Madrid derby on Sunday night provided some unpleasant and regrettable images as a fight in the stands led to supporters of both sides being thrown out.

The reason for the altercation and ejection, however, is even sadder. A father with his young son in a Real Madrid shirt were sat in the home end, but a tirade of insults from Atleti fans meant they had to be removed by security.

Two Atletico Madrid fans were also removed for their part in the altercation in shameful images caught by Movistar's cameras.

Tensions understandably run high in derby games, but questions need to be asked when a vile abuse is directed at anyone, especially a child, just for wanting to watch their team play.

Atleti won the match 1-0 thanks to a Yannick Carrasco penalty in what could be a vital three points in Los Colchoneros' hunt to secure Champions League football for next season.
