Real Madrid came from behind on two occasions to eventually earn a 3-3 draw in their Champions League quarter-final at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu against Manchester City.

Real Madrid were hoping to avenge their Champions League defeat to Manchester City last season at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday evening, but their evening got off to the worst possible start.

A cheap free-kick was given away and Bernardo Silva took Andriy Lunin completely by surprise with a low-shot from distance.

Whilst it was from what you would call a safe distance away from goal, the Ukrainian stopper was caught unaware and despite a late scramble he couldn't prevent the ball from bouncing into the back of the net.

A stunned Bernabeu feared the worst, yet the attacking brilliance of Los Blancos would show throughout the evening, although their defensive frailties would too.

It didn't take too long for the hosts to draw level, with a Camavinga shot deflecting off Ruben Dias and totally wrongfooting the goalkeeper.

Manchester City then showed their own nativity, looking to immediately get back on the attack, however they were caught on a superb counter-attack initiated by Lunin.

A quick roll out saw Vinicius Jr. pick the ball up in his own half and he provided a perfect pass in behind to Rodrygo Goes.

The Brazilian raced beyond Manchester City's backline and poked the ball beyond the City goalkeeper's reach and it trickled into the back of the net at an agonizingly slow pace.

Manchester City turned to their stars in the second-half

Phil Foden has been Manchester City's best player in recent weeks, and on a night where Erling Haaland once again went missing, the English midfielder fired City level in the second-half.

Foden cut inside from the right and fired a powerful left-footed drive into the roof of the net beyond Lunin to make it 2-2.

It took just minutes for the Blues to be back in front, this time through Josko Gvardiol. He cut inside from the left on this occasion, taking the ball on his right foot, and powered another drive into the opposite corner of the Real Madrid net.

Pep Guardiola couldn't hide his delight at the go-ahead goal, but his defense would once again let him down.

Failing to monitor a run from Federico Valverde, the Uruguayan was left free at the edge of the penalty area when a cross came directly to him.

He took it on the volley and smashed a beautiful goal into the bottom corner of the Manchester City net making it 3-3 on the night.

A draw was a fair result, and it showcased the frightening attacking talent within both teams, as many consider the two teams to be the best in the competition.

In Manchester the second-leg will be played, and it may come down to who can keep defensive mistakes to a minimum.
