Jude Bellingham has raised the prospect of securing a personal treble this summer by helping take England to glory in the European Championships.

The 20-year old said on Monday night that he believed Gareth Southgate’s team could go ‘one step further’ by actually lifting the trophy which Italy deprived them of in the Wembley final, three years ago.

After winning the Laureus ‘breakthrough of the year' trophy, at a star-studded final in Madrid, Bellingham, star of Real Madrid's El Clasico victory on Sunday, said: ‘We're still got a few more games to wrap up La Liga. And then, you know, we've got two very difficult games against Munich - and then for the Euros. Hopefully, we can take our form from the last few tournaments into that and push on and go one better.’

The 20-year-old stepped up for his award at the end of a day when a euphoric Madrid celebrated his winning goal in Sunday’s Classico.

Raul, the former Real player, said that Bellingham had been born to play for Real.

Asked how he had settled in so quickly at the club, Bellingham said: ‘I think it's a mix of everything. Really, my teammates are amazing, the staff, they're just great and I come out in the city every now and then, and I feel really well received by the fans and it's just the beautiful. It's a really good mix.’

Bellingham joined Novak Djokovic, Spanish women’s footballer Aitana Bonmati and gymnast Simone Biles among the big winners at the 25th edition of the prestigious global awards event.
