The sporting rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo goes back several years. Throughout their careers, they have been compared to each other, especially during the period when the Argentine wore the colors of FC Barcelona and the Portuguese wore those of Real Madrid.

The debate over who is the best on the field has divided soccer fans, but if the "10" and the "7" faced off in the ring... who would win? One trainer gave his verdict.

Messi vs. Ronaldo: who wins?

The captain of the Argentine national team has faced the captain of the Portuguese national team 37 times, with 17 wins for Leo, 11 for CR7, and 9 draws.

However, if there were a hypothetical fight and they traded their cleats for boxing gloves and the field for a ring, Messi would win. Or at least that's what one experienced coach believes.

Malik Scott, former coach of former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, spoke with Jackpot City Casino and argued without hesitation that Lionel could take up boxing if he wanted to, and be successful:

"Messi's character comes across just a little bit rougher for boxing, in his demeanor," Malik explained. "[Ronaldo] to me, he has a competitive, but a very, like, soft demeanor when he's not playing."

In a sport where aggression is key and maintaining a strong and tough stance is also important, Scott made it clear that there is nothing wrong with Ronaldo's attitude and that he remains an exceptional athlete. However, the former coach continued to lean towards the Argentine: "To me, Messi always looks like he's on go-time. He always looks like, if you say the wrong thing or disrespect him the wrong way, he will mess you up."

This curious confrontation comes as both players are still active and may compete in the 2026 World Cup. As this is likely to be the last of the two soccer legends, this comparison reignites global interest in determining which of the two is the most influential in history and defining the "GOAT."

Despite their rivalry, both have made it clear that their "battle" is only on the field. Although they are not close friends, they have praised each other on numerous occasions and shared great moments. What is certain is that both delight any fan with their play.
