For a slight bit of time, it felt like Manchester United was starting turn the corner under manager Ruben Amorim. Three straight wins had the Red Devils in the Top 4 conversation once again. They still are, but a 2-2 draw against relegation-fighting Nottingham Forest was more familiar for Manchester United fans in recent times.
It wasn't too long ago that United finished third in the Premier League, but a bad 2023-24 season and a poor start to the 2024-25 season saw Erik Ten Hag sacked and Amorim slotted in with high expectations. Amorim, a former Portugal teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo, couldn't do anything to keep the season from being a disaster. It only got worse at the start of the 2025-26 season, with United getting eliminated from the EFL Cup by a League Two side.
Cristiano Ronaldo turns celebration into a show
Even though Amorim hasn't had much time to turn things around, he's been on the hot seat for a while already. That doesn't sit too well with Ronaldo, who believes the issues at his former club run far deeper than the manager.
Cristiano Ronaldo calls out Manchester United's footballing authorities
While speaking to Piers Morgan in an exclusive interview, Ronaldo spoke about Manchester United's current "sad" situation.
I'm sad because it's one of the most important clubs in the world, a club that I still have in my heart. Manchester United right now don't have a structure. We all have to be honest and say they are not in a good path. They need to change. It's not only about the coach and players, in my opinion, it's much more... [Amorim] is doing his best. What is he going to do, miracles? That's impossible.
Ronaldo believes there's a bit of an identity crisis with the club and its players. Amorim might just be along for the ride on a sinking ship.
