The future of Mohamed Salah is beginning to take shape after his departure from Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season was confirmed. Although his name was linked on several occasions with MLS, the latest reports suggest that the Egyptian's destination would be far from the United States.

MLS losing ground in race for Salah

For months, teams such as Chicago Fire and San Diego FC appeared as possible options for the winger. However, both clubs are said to have ruled out that possibility.

San Diego's case is one of sporting model: the franchise does not consider it viable to incorporate a superstar with a high salary as a franchise player. Chicago, for its part, would also have no interest in pursuing his signing, despite previous rumors.

Even so, not everything is closed within the league. New York City FC appears to be one of the few teams that does not rule out exploring the option, although there has been no concrete progress so far.

Leaving Liverpool marks a turning point

Despite the rumors, the player's entourage remains cautious. His agent, Ramy Abbas, has publicly asked not to assume any destination and assured that there is still no decision made.
