Jack Wilshere has blasted Jamie Carragher for his claims that Jurgen Klopp ranks above Arsene Wenger as a better manager and has called on the ex-Liverpool defender 'not to be so biased.'

It came after Klopp said farewell to Anfield on Sunday, following nearly nine years in charge at the club. The German is widely regarded as one of the best managers of the Premier League era, guiding the Reds to a Premier League title, FA Cup and two Carabao Cups, while clinching the Champions League in 2019.

Speaking on the , brought to you by Sky Bet, Carragher reflected on his top-five managers of the Premier League era, stating: 'I would put him [Jurgen Klopp] above Wenger, with the only reason being the Champions League.'

His comments appeared to infuriate Wilshere, who had risen through the academy ranks at the north London club to hone his skills under the legendary Arsenal boss, Wenger.

'[It is] unbelievable how he [Klopp] transformed Liverpool but Arsene’s legacy in the premier league is second to none,' Wilshere wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

'Sorry Jamie but you are miles off it, please don’t be so biased and respect Arsene and what he did over a longer period, including leading the only team in the premier league to be invincible.'

Carragher had placed Pep Guardiola at the top of his managerial rankings, notably above serial Premier League winner Sir Alex Ferguson, with the Spanish manager having clinched four consecutive league titles with Man City, while also completing the Treble last season.

But Wilshere, who is currently coaching Arsenal's U18 side after retiring from professional football in 2022, continued to emphasise the impact that Wenger had on the Premier League with his Arsenal sides of the naughties.

He said: 'Everyone appreciates what Pep has done and changed the way we see football in this country but don’t forget AW [Wenger] had a similar effect when he came in 1996!'

Speaking directly to Carragher, he added: 'You know that era better than me and witnessed it so let’s not forget that!'

Wenger would take charge in October 1996 and would oversee 1234 matches with the north London club across a 22-year period. In that time he would win three league titles and seven FA Cups, but would not win the Champions League.

Carragher, further expanded on his opinion, stating that Wenger's inability to win the illustrious European title was why he sits below Klopp in his rankings.

'Arsenal didn't quite crack that did they, but Klopp got to three finals, won it once, and I just think coming up against City and the points totals as well,' he added, speaking on the , brought to you by Sky Bet

'I'd put Pep Guardiola top of Premier League [history]. Sir Alex Ferguson, what he did at Aberdeen, maybe puts him above Pep, but in terms of the Premier League, Guardiola has won six in seven [Premier League titles], and he's only been here for eight years.

'Ferguson would have only won his first once after being there for seven years. I'd go Pep, Ferguson, Jose [Mourinho] because he came back and won the league with Chelsea, then Klopp next [then Wenger].'
