Gary Neville believes England must utilise Trent Alexander-Arnold properly because he is 'world class' at what he does.
England boss Gareth Southgate has made it clear that thinks the Liverpool man is ready to start Sunday's Euro 2024 opener against Serbia.
As Mail Sport revealed on Monday, the national team head coach has been giving serious consideration to starting Alexander-Arnold, who plays at right-back for Liverpool, in midfield.
The 25-year-old is set to start and Neville backs the decision because of his undeniable quality.
'We could look back in five, six, seven, eight years and regret how we've handled him,' Neville said on ITV Sport.

'He's one player who I would describe as world class as what he does. There's no doubt about that.
'He's unique in terms of his delivery, his set-piece play. We know Gareth loves set-pieces. He'll have (Bukayo) Saka with his left foot, he won't won't to put Rice on set-pieces.
'I think the idea of having Trent in there isn't just to get that second midfield player that beefs things up a bit.
'Mainoo, Wharton and Gallagher are not ideal either. I think he wants that second one in there.
'We're talking about Trent Alexander-Arnold here. No one ever doubts the fact that he is special, really special.
Southgate believes Alexander-Arnold can give the England team a different dimension
'We've mishandled special players for 20, 30, 40 years. We're trying to get him into the team and let's see how it goes. It may work brilliantly today
Asked if he is ready to start in central midfield alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham, Southgate told ITV Sport on Friday: ‘We believe so. We think he can offer something we don't have and give the team a different dimension. He's really been diligent in understanding the role.
‘He has as good a passing range as anybody in world football. He's been really invested in learning, understanding all aspects of the game in that role.
'I've enjoyed working with him on that project for the last 12 months. His mentality and attitude towards it have been absolutely first-class.’
