Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are reportedly considering buying Ligue 2 side Bordeaux, who are in major financial downfall.

FSG’s desire to buy a second football club has been made abundantly clear as their legal team are said to be leading discussions with the club.

It comes after the DNCG, the organisation responsible for monitoring the accounts of professional football clubs in France, downgraded Bordeaux to National 1 on Tuesday.

If the deal goes through with the French side's owner, Gerard Lopez, then FSG’s chief executive of football, Michael Edwards, will oversee the appointment of a football operations team, The Times reports.

Lopez was said to have 'expected' their National 1 downgrade and presented the idea of selling the club in a hearing to the financial watchdog of French football.

Ward rejoined Pedro Marques, who was poached from Benfica, as Edwards was also given an overarching role by FSG two years after he left Liverpool.

The Reds overhauled their hierarchy which has Edwards at the helm and Hughes working underneath him.

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot has the daunting challenge of following in the footsteps of legendary manager Jurgen Klopp.

Last week, however, he insisted he is 'relishing' that challenge as he hailed the club's 'winning culture' in his first press conference since arriving at Anfield

Slot was also stopped from announcing the names of two new arrivals during his first press conference.

Speaking on the transfer window, he said: 'I think what has been announced already is Sipke Hulshoff, who I've already worked with at Feyenoord and our former club Cambuur.

'He's sitting in the room as well like you probably saw. Goalkeeping coach has been announced, I haven't worked with him but we've spoken to him and are really happy he's going to join our team.'

There was then an amusing moment for those in attendance as he announced that he was 'expecting two others to join'.

He proceeded to ask 'can we?' as he looked in the direction of Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who knocked him back.
