Rasmus Hojlund has defended his Manchester United colleague Bruno Fernandes from 'unfair' criticism, following reports that the pair had fallen out.

It was claimed that the Dane had fallen out with the Man United captain over a lack of service up front.

However, in a new interview, Hojlund expressed his gratitude towards Fernandes for his role in assisting the Dane's late goal in the 4-2 win over Sheffield United

Hojlund told BBC Sport’s Football Focus: ‘I just want to tell him: “Thanks for the ball, Bruno!”.

‘I was very happy for him because he’s also getting a lot of criticism.

‘It’s not fair because he’s doing everything at a top level all the time and he’s an amazing captain.’

Fernandes took over the Manchester United captaincy last summer when Erik ten Hag handed him the armband instead of previous captain Harry Maguire.

Reports last week claimed the Dane was not happy with the captain for not providing him enough service in the Man United frontline, and had even brought up the issue with backroom staff at the club.

But it seems that the rift may have been overstated, based on the new interview.

Hojlund also believes that they can beat crosstown rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month.

‘We have a chance to win the cup. It’s my first chance to win silverware,’ he added.

‘For me, this is a big game and I think we have a good chance to do something special now for the rest of the season.’
