  • Joshua Zirkzee revealed he went to school with another Man United star
  • Fans have been left stunned by his revelation after move move from Bologna
  • Zirkzee joined for £36.5million to become United's first signing of the summer

Jaws hit the floor when Manchester United's new recruit Joshua Zirkzee revealed that he went to school with another of the club's players.

Zirkzee, 23, has signed from Bologna for £36.5million after United paid above his release clause to land him.

The Netherlands international, who played twice at Euro 2024, has signed a five-year deal and will be breathing down the next of Rasmus Hojlund.

Last season he scored 12 goals as Bologna finished fifth and qualified for the Champions League, making a return to Europe's top table for the first time since 1965.

Settling in at a new club can be difficult but the transition will be smoothed over by the fact Zirkzee knows a 'nice guy' from his school days.

Viewers were left shocked after he revealed to Manchester United's club media that he shared part of his childhood with none other than Tyrell Malacia.

'[I've] been to school with Tyrell Malacia so known him for a long time. He's a nice guy,' he said.

The Dutch forward also added that he had never been to Manchester before but that he was 'very' excited to get to know the city.

'That's nuts imagine you and your bro from high school both end up playing for the best club in the world,' wrote one user on X, formerly Twitter.

'That’s mad imagine playing at the biggest club in the world with your school mates,' said another.

'The chances of that are insane,' one commented.

'That's crazy,' said another.

Malacia, 24, was last week pictured at Carrington for the first time since missing the entirety of last season - and failing to train even a minute during that time - following a knee meniscus injury and two surgeries.

Zirkzee became United's first signing of the transfer window with Lille defender Leny Yoro, 18, set to be unveiled as the second on Friday in a £52m deal.

Upon signing, Zirkzee said: 'Having had discussions with the manager and the leaders of the club I know how exciting the future is going to be here and I cannot wait to play my part in achieving success for Manchester United.

'I am a player who has always dedicated everything to winning; I'm ready for this next challenge, to go to another level in my career and win more trophies. It is a privilege to join such an iconic club. I have to take a short break now after being with the national team, but I'll be coming back ready to make an impact straight away.'

United's new sporting director Dan Ashworth welcomed his first signing since arriving at Old Trafford, with United still in the market for two centre-backs and a defensive midfielder.

Ashworth said: 'Securing a forward to enhance our already strong group of attacking players was a key aim for this summer. We are delighted that we've managed to sign a player of Joshua's calibre this early in the transfer window.

'Joshua is an outstanding talent who is ready to make an impact for Manchester United. His ability and desire to grow into a world-class player means that he will be a great addition to the squad that we are building for the exciting season ahead and beyond.'
