Koeman: I haven't been told anything, but I have eyes and ears

There has been a lot of speculation about Ronald Koeman's position as Barcelona head coach, but the Dutchman is remaining calm.

Koeman will not be on the bench for Saturday night's match away at Atletico Madrid as he serves the second of a two-game suspension, and it is thought that another negative result could see him dismissed during the international break.

"Nobody has said anything to me. It's true that the president was here this morning, but I didn't see him because he was preparing for the match," Koeman said during Friday's pre-match press conference.

"He hasn't said anything to me, but I have ears, I have eyes and I know that a lot of things leak out."

When asked about what Barcelona are lacking, Koeman pointed to their inability to convert chances into goals.

"There is a lack of balance at the moment. There are attacking players getting back to fitness," he noted.

"We're not being clinical enough. Atletico are capable of having one shot on goal and scoring. We have four shots on goal and we haven't scored. That's a big difference."

Koeman was a little rattled when one journalist asked him what grade he would give himself.

"I'm sick of defending myself. Anyone can analyse the situation of the club and the team," he stated.

"We have accepted changes at the club. I'm sure there will be people who think this is a good thing. I'm sure there will be people who think this is disrespectful. Others will think that it takes time... One day I would like to talk about what I think."

There was a sense of this potentially being Koeman's final press conference as Barcelona head coach, as evidenced by a question about what his best moment in charge has been.

"Do I have to answer? It seems I'm already on my way out. The best moment: the signing [of my contract]. The worst: [Lionel] Messi's departure," he responded.

Koeman was quizzed as to whether another coach could get more out of this team, and he didn't seem too happy with that question.

"I don't know, do I also have to speak for another coach?" he replied.

"If I had a bag of money, Messi would still be here. And I would bring in other players to play dominating football."
