Despite having been expected to fully recover from his injury in 2022, Erling Haaland surprisingly returned to action in Borussia Dortmund's game away at Wolfsburg and netted off the bench to lead his team to a 3-1 victory.

Wout Weghorst opened the scoring for the hosts two minutes into the duel, but Emre Can equalised from the spot in the 35th minute.

Donyell Malen scored Dortmund's second after the break to turn the game around before he made way for Haaland.

The Norway international came on in the 73th minute and it took him just seven minutes and 18 seconds to score his 50th goal in 50 Bundesliga games.

With this morale-boosting win, Dortmund bounce back after being eliminated from the Champions League following their 3-1 defeat to Sporting CP on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Haaland now has seven goals in nine Bundesliga games, with Robert Lewandowski being the league's top scorer with 14 goals.

Dortmund are currently sitting top of the table with 30 points, followed by Bayern Munich who have 28 points and one game in hand. The two rivals face each other in Der Klassiker which will take place at the Westfalenstadion next Sunday.
