Liverpool academy graduate Jarell Quansah has pledged the club faces a strong future without Jurgen Klopp.

Quansah is one of the few Reds playing Spurs on Sunday who predates Klopp at Anfield having first signed at the age of five and rising through the academy ranks.

He takes a matter-of-fact approach to the German leaving even if his departure has invited similarities with Manchester United’s decline post-Sir Alex Ferguson.

‘At the end of the day, managers come and go. There are not many stay 20 plus years, especially in this era,’ says the composed central defender.

‘As a player, it is about impressing the manager who is in charge. That is the life of a footballer.

‘From when you’re young, you are just trying to play for contracts and trying to stay for as long as you can. That has always been my aim.

‘The gaffer has done a great job in building a foundation. The dressing room is full of winners.

‘Liverpool is unique what the fans do for us and what the club means to players like me.

‘I think we will always be a club who want to challenge for the league title and other trophies and definitely the Champions League.

‘We have a strong group still and it will get stronger the longer we are together.’

Quansah is now 21 and getting accustomed to being recognised as the man who plays alongside Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate in the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

‘Nothing has changed too dramatically in my life but more people want autographs and selfies. It’s all part and parcel of it.

‘I remember when I was younger and used to see footballers in public and you were in awe of them. I know I am an example now and possibly a role model for some younger people.

‘I wouldn’t say I enjoy it, it’s one of those where it’s part of the job. At the end of the day I’m a footballer not a celebrity or anything like that.’
