Daniel Sturridge has claimed Mo Salah went into Liverpool's game against Tottenham with a point to prove.

Salah returned to the starting XI for the visit Ange Postecoglou's side, just one week after a highly-publicised touchline clash with Jurgen Klopp in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with West Ham.

After being restored to side, Salah wasted little time making his mark at Anfield, opening the scoring on 16 minutes with a close-range header.

The talisman then provided an assist for Andy Robertson as the Scotsman doubled their lead from close range.

Speaking following the game, former Reds forward Sturridge claimed Salah's performance appeared to be bolstered by the circumstances.

'Salah was hungry for goals.' Sturridge said on Sky Sports.

'He wanted to prove a point. There, were loads of players out there that were hungry to show what they were capable of today. And they performed well.'

Roy Keane added that the capacity Anfield crowd had influenced what was largely a dominant performance for Klopp's side.

'It was good atmosphere,' Keane said. 'Obviously the players responded to that.

'And if you come and watch them again, they'd be disappointed with the two conceded, but it was game done, and they probably should have just got a few more.'

After the restart the hosts picked up where they left off with Harvey Elliott providing a looping cross for Cody Gakpo to make it three.

The 21-year-old then got on the scoresheet himself, firing a thunderbolt beyond Vicario in the Tottenham goal to seemingly put the result beyond all doubt on the hour mark.

The introduction of Richarlison inspired Spurs to rally in the closing stages however, and the former Everton star continued his habit of netting at Anfield to give the visitors a glimmer of hope.

Son Heung-min added a second as Tottenham attempted to force their way back into the game but the damage had already been done and the Reds held on to secure all three points.
