Wrexham face a battle with Premier League and Championship clubs as they try to land loan star Arthur Okonkwo on a permanent this summer.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper was crucial in the Hollywood-backed side's promotion to League One, playing 38 games on loan from Arsenal in all competitions.

Mail Sport understands no offer is on the table - or forthcoming - from the Gunners with the shot-stopper's contract expiring this summer, and as such no compensation would be required, making him an attractive proposition for a host of teams.

Okonkwo, who was named in the League Two Team of the Year at the EFL awards last week, has already received interest from Premier League and Championship clubs, as well as from Wrexham.

There is also understood to be interest across Europe given his success previously in Austria with Sturm Graz.

Wrexham picked up Okonkwo after Ben Foster's shock retirement just a handful of games into the season and he has thrived under Phil Parkinson.

His team-mates in North Wales took to Instagram over the weekend in a bid to convince him to 'sign the contract' and stay for the club's first season in League One since 2004-05.

The goalkeeper, however, has been keen to stress he is in no rush to make a decision with two games remaining of the season.

'It has been an incredible season and I am so proud of the team, the staff and everyone around the club for having the trust in me, and allow me to show what I can do,' he told the Leader.

'We will see what happens in the future.'
