Joe Hugill has pulled out of Manchester United’s squad to tour the US as he prepares to make a loan move to Wigan Athletic.

Erik ten Hag and his players are flying to Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon for a training camp and three games against Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool.

But Hugill, who scored in United’s 2-0 win over Rangers at Murrayfield on Saturday, has stayed behind in Manchester to complete a move to the League One club for the rest of the season. 

The 20-year-old striker spent the second half of last season on loan at Burton Albion, making 17 appearances in League One.

Meanwhile, a number of first-team players returned to training ahead of the trip to the US.

Marcus Rashford, Antony and Victor Lindelof all missed the Rangers friendly with minor injuries but were given the all-clear to work with the main group on Monday and Tuesday.

Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay were also involved, and Denmark duo Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen returned to training on Monday after Euro 2024 along with goalkeeper Tom Heaton who helped out the England squad in Germany.

United’s first game of the tour will be against Arsenal in LA in the early hours of Sunday, with friendlies against Real Betis in San Diego and Liverpool in Columbia, South Carolina to follow.
