Andres Iniesta has said that it would be difficult for Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi to return to Barcelona.

He has not ruled it out, though, considering many would have never expected him to leave Barcelona in the first place.

Iniesta, still playing for Japanese club Vissel Kobe, has given an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he has reviewed the important match that will take place this Champions League matchday between Barcelona and Inter as well as the rumours of Messi coming back to Barcelona.

"From a distance, I think it's hard, but in football you never know," Iniesta said of Messi's possible return.

Moving on to talk about this week's game against Inter, Iniesta expressed confidence.

"It's vital that Barcelona win to stay alive in the competition," he said.

"It's a crucial game. Inter have a great team and it will be difficult for Barcelona.

"I expect Barcelona to take the initiative and for Inter to wait for their chances, considering that in theory a draw could suit them.

"The Champions League is a competition of details, if you make a mistake you pay for it, but Barcelona have a great chance to come back and I hope they succeed.

"I think Barcelona have found an excellent line-up and have a very complete squad.

"The work they've done since the start of the season is excellent and confidence and hope must remain high."
