Barcelona are suffering this season, in attack and defence. One player who is more questioned than ever before is goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The German goalkeeper for the first time has the stats against him.

Nobody thinks he to blame for the team’s struggles, and most think he is the best pick in the world for what the team needs. However stats show he’s lost his saviour aura, no longer capable of miracles to disguise the team’s weakness. He has been humanised.

In the five games so far this season in La Liga he’s made nine saves. That’s 1.8 per game, over than in previous years. His best was 3.39 per game in 2016-17, and average was 2.56. He’s letting in 0.8 per game but his best was 0.76 per game in 2017-18. His worst is 1 per game in 2019-20 and 15-16.

Everything is magnified in the Champions League. He has let in six goals in two games, three per game, and made seven saves, 3.5. His average before now is 1.17 goals let in and 2.8 saves per game.

At 29, he is in his eighth year at Barca and wants to stop this humanisation, get back to shining and making miracles. A captain without the armband, he’s more than capable of leading Barca through their reconstruction.
