Manchester United staff have reportedly been left disappointed by the removal of employee perks by new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe ahead of next month's FA Cup final, according to reports.

Since the British petrochemicals billionaire's £1.3billion purchase of a 25 per cent stake in the Premier League side was confirmed at the end of February, Ratcliffe's Ineos group has been carrying out a root-and-branch overhaul of the club's day-to-day running both on and off the pitch.

It is thought that Ratcliffe was alarmed upon discovering the extent of Manchester United's excessive spending habits, and Ineos has subsequently employed consultancy firm Interpath Advisory to oversee a review which is set to conclude at the end of the season.

In March, preliminary reports are thought to have prompted Ineos to cut back on the usage of private chauffeurs for certain members of backroom staff, after previously cancelling company credit cards for some senior figures.

But the new part-owner's latest move may have angered Man United staff throughout the organisation and somewhat dampened the build-up to May's trip to Wembley.

As per the Times, members of staff were told in a company-wide email that they would be given a free ticket to the final - as is customary at Man United - but employees would have to pay for their own travel in a break from tradition.

Other perks for some senior staff, such as a pre-match party, lunch after the match, and hotel accomodation, has been scrapped entirely, as has the ability for those employees and directors to bring their friends and family to the Wembley showpiece.

Those wishing to attend the match using their free ticket will have to pay either £20 for a return journey, or £10 one-way as part of the cost-cutting measures, which Ratcliffe is carrying out with an eye to keeping within the limits of the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

An email - which the Times says it has seen - is alleged to have been sent to all staff informing of this season's change, highlighting that next month's outing will be 'a little different' to the norm.

'There is still hard work ahead over the coming weeks, but I know everyone at the club is completely focused on delivering the performances and results expected of Manchester United and finding ways to win in whatever role you do,' the email is alleged to have read.

'In recognition of your ongoing support this season, we will organise a colleague trip to Wembley for the final on 25 May. This year, the trip will be a little different.

'We will still provide you with a complimentary ticket to the game. However, we’ll ask you to contribute towards coach travel, and lunch will not be provided.

'While we appreciate this is a change from previous trips, you will all be aware of the need for us to spend the club's money effectively, with a focus on performance and outcomes.

'We hope that this year's trip balances the opportunity for you to go to Wembley to support our players while also ensuring we can invest as much as possible into the club over the coming months to achieve our goal of returning Manchester United back to the top of English, European and world football.'

Erik ten Hag's side will travel to the capital at the end of the season to replay last year's FA Cup final against Treble-winners Manchester City.

Man United secured their place in the final by a hair's breadth, after knocking Coventry City out on penalties following a controversial VAR call which chalked off the Sky Blues' potential late winner deep into extra-time.
