Former Germany and Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann believes Jude Bellingham needs an 'attitude adjustment.'

The 21-year-old's remarkable 2023-24 campaign ended in heartache as England suffered a 2-1 defeat by Spain in the final of Euro 2024. Despite reaching the Berlin showpiece, the Three Lions were far from impressive throughout the tournament.

And Bellingham was among the England players who struggled for consistency during the competition. Still, the Real Madrid star was responsible for one of the enduring moments of the tournament; his outrageous last-minute bicycle kick against Slovakia.

But neither that display nor the former Borussia Dortmund star's fine defensive performances can dissuade Hamann from his opinion on the youngster.

The German hit out at his attitude and even called his contribution in Madrid's Champions League win into question.

'Jude Bellingham, at the moment, is going down the wrong route.' Hamann told TopOffshoreSportsBooks. 'If you look at some of the comments he has made, including about the referee in Germany when he got away with a fine when he should’ve been banned.

'There's a lot of things he said or he's done which I don't like. I didn't like his behaviour at all. He barged into Filip Kostic in the first game after a tackle and he should’ve been booked for it.

'Then he scores the last-minute goal against Slovakia and he stands there saying: ‘Who else?’

'Now I'd like to know what all his teammates think because there's 10 players next to him who are top class players in their own right.

'Now he's obviously got it in his head that he's the best and he's the greatest in that team. You've got to be careful because there's always someone bigger than you.

'If you behave like that, you tempt fate when at the moment, I think the jury's out.

'He had a good first half of the season at Real Madrid. But in the quarter-final, semi-final and the final of the Champions League he was nowhere to be seen.

'They won the Champions League because of Andriy Lunin, because of Toni Kroos, because of Vini Junior, because of Rodrygo - not because of Bellingham.'

Hamann's claim was somewhat bolstered by reports following England's defeat by La Roja that Bellingham's Adidas advert rubbed some in the camp the wrong way.

On the eve of of the tournament Adidas released a near-two minute video centered on Bellingham and cut to the Beatles' timeless hit 'Hey Jude'.

The ad featured clips of fans looking on at England's historic moments of failure in despair and also included appearances from former Three Lions stars David Beckham, Ian Wright and Frank Lampard.

but according to The Athletic, some within the England camp felt Bellingham's 'portrayal as a saviour' was 'at odds with their collective ethos'.

The same publication reported that the player's 'demeanour' was the subject of some talk within the camp, with the Real Madrid midfielder very-much aware of any criticism of his displays within the British press.

Indeed, despite being elevated to the team's leadership group, his lack of willingness to front up to the media during England's difficult moments in the tournament was noted - Wayne Rooney making a pointed case in his column for The Times last month.

Bellingham's accelerated rise through the England ranks - coupled with his decision to opt to develop his career abroad away from the Premier League - has left him with few genuine bonds within the squad.

The 21-year-old shares a friendship with Trent Alexander-Arnold, but beyond that does not have any deep connections with his team-mates.
