"Proud to announce that Keylor Navas is the new goalkeeper of Newell's Old Boys. Welcome to your new home!" With this message on social media, the Rosario club made official the signing of the 38-year-old former PSG and Real Madrid goalkeeper. The Costa Rican is embarking on a new adventure and has signed for the next 18 months.
Free since his departure last summer from PSG, running out of contract, Navas had been strongly contacted by Colo Colo, one of the best clubs in the Chilean championship, but finally ended up opting for the team in which Lionel Messi, his former teammate in Paris, was formed.
The experienced goalkeeper took his time to decide on his new adventure since the end of the last transfer window in the summer and was not seduced by any of the other offers that came from Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Brazil (Gremio de Porto Alegre) and Argentina (San Lorenzo).
Keylor Navas, who was a Real Madrid goalkeeper for five seasons, winning three Champions Leagues in 2016, 2017 and 2018, has not played an official match since May 19, 2024 in a Ligue 1 match for PSG against Metz. He arrived in Paris in 2019 and played a total of 110 games for the French club, but his playing time had been significantly reduced since the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma in 2021.
