Joe Gomez has not travelled with Arne Slot's Liverpool squad to Ipswich today as the defender is considering his options.

The 27-year-old is open to a new challenge in his quest for regular first-team football, with strong competition from the likes of Jarell Quansah and Ibrahima Konate

He saw a potential £45million move to Newcastle United fall through last month as part of negotiations around the deal for Anthony Gordon.

Aston Villa, Fulham, Chelsea, and foreign sides are also interested in the England international, as per The Times

Liverpool are not forcing out the star, whose versatility is a strong asset for club and country, and would re-integrate him into the side if no move materialises.

Peter Crouch referred to him as a 'great squad player' when talking to TNT Sports in the build-up to the match.

Joe Cole added: 'I really feel for Joe Gomez because when he emerged, before he had two major knee operations, he was the answer to England's centre-half (problems). He could play right-back, left-back.

'He's won his trophies. I think he'll want to go somewhere and try and establish himself. I think seeing Marc Guehi and (Ezri) Konsa getting into the England squad probably made him think: "I need to play regularly this year."'

Gomez signed for Liverpool from Charlton in 2015 for a fee of £3.5million and has since made 248 appearances.

He is Liverpool's longest-serving player.

In that time he has won football's top club honours including the Champions League and the Premier League and has also broken into the England set-up, making 15 outings but never establishing himself as a regular.
