Jose Mourinho could be part of Amazon's Champions League coverage next season after holding talks with the broadcaster, according to reports.

The legendary Portuguese coach remains out of work after being sacked by Roma in January and could now move into a more permanent punditry role as he waits for another managerial opportunity to become available.

Amazon are reassessing their team during the off-season and are keen to hire Mourinho in a move that would represent one of the biggest coups in sports broadcasting, as reported by the Independent.

Next season will be Amazon's debut year broadcasting in the competition after they previously signed a deal with the competition two years ago.

They will look to call on their experiences of covering the Premier League where Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry and Patrice Evra have all enjoyed spells working for the company.

The American-owned company have secured the television rights to 17 live Champions League games across the next three years and will have the first choice match for every round of the competition.

Mourinho has previously enjoyed shorter stints on-air during temporary spells out of management and will form part of TNT Sports' coverage of Saturday's Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

The 61-year-old is keen to return to the dugout at the earliest opportunity but has held positive communications with Amazon as they attempt to bring him into their team.

If he does take up another managerial position between now and the start of next season then it is unlikely Mourinho would entertain the possibility of moving into a media role.

Mourinho's experiences in the Champions League and managing Premier League teams makes him perfectly-suited to passing judgement from the studio.

Man City, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool will represent England in Europe's top club competition, with Amazon likely to pick up several fixtures involving the four clubs.

Mourinho previously announced himself as a top European manager when he won a shock Champions League title with Porto in 2004, beating Sir Alex Ferguson's Man United on the way to victory.

He then moved to Chelsea and led the Blues to consecutive Premier League triumphs before departing for Inter Milan and winning a second Champions League with the Italian giant.

Mourinho was unable to replicate his former European title glories at Real Madrid and again at a second spell at Stamford Bridge, but did win the Europa League with Man United in 2017.

His final job at Roma saw Mourinho win the inaugural UEFA Conference League with Roma two years ago but struggled during his third season in the Italian capital.
