Chelsea reportedly have an eye on bringing back a former club captain back in the future, but this time as manager.

The Blues confirmed the arrival of Enzo Maresca in the dugout this week after parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino.

And despite only appointing Maresca this week, the Blues seemingly have an eye on the future already. According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea want to create a coaching production line.

It would allow players to develop their trade in the coaching world in their multi-club model before blossoming into future star managers at the Blues.

The player in question's leadership skills make him an ideal candidate for the model they want to put in place.

That player is of course, Thiago Silva, who only left Stamford Bridge last month after four years at the club

The 39-year-old played his final game for the Blues against Bournemouth on the final day of the Premier League season, before returning to Brazilian side Fluminese to carry on his playing career.

The defender was a key figure in the Blues' Champions League-winning side in 2021, showing his leadership skills in the final against Manchester City.

Chelsea's upturn in form since the turn of the year was partly down to the Brazil legend's presence back in the team following injury.

Thiago has already expressed his desire to come back to Chelsea in the future and could be the first of many coaches on the BlueCo, the consortium led by Todd Boehly, assembly line.

Speaking upon his decision to leave in April, Thiago said: 'I think in everything I did here over the four years, I always gave my all. But, unfortunately, everything has a start, a middle and an end.

'That doesn’t mean that this is a definitive end. I hope to leave the door open so that in the near future I can return, albeit in another role here.'

BlueCo own three clubs, including Chelsea and French side Strasbourg, and have the desire to once become a mammoth group like the City Football Group.

Girona boss Michel is a success story of the City Football Group

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou also once managed a side in the CFG

The model Todd Boehly has in mind would follow a similar structure put in place by the City Football Group, who own Manchester City. Ange Postecoglou's success at one of the group's sides, Yokohama F. Marinos, is an example of how development can be done.

The CFG have 12 clubs under their umbrella, including the likes of Girona, who recently qualified for next season's Champions League after finishing third in La Liga behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Spanish side's coach, Michel, has acquired a lot of interest since plying his trade with Girona, and if Pep Guardiola leaves, has even been in the conversation to replace him.
