Roy Keane joked that Erik ten Hag was being too hard on him after the jubilant Manchester United boss could not resist a cheeky dig at the pundit's expense.

Ten Hag has faced plenty of criticism from television pundits this season, Keane included, and now was his opportunity, after guiding United to a 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester United, to give something back.

Keane had spells as a manager at both Sunderland, where he won the Championship, and at Ipswich Town, where he was dismissed midway through his second season as they slumped near to the relegation zone.

Ten Hag joked that Keane 'had trouble to manage a team', a cheeky jibe at the Irishman's own managerial record.

Keane did however take it in his stride, keen to let Ten Hag have his moment.

ITV pundit Keane said to him: 'You must be proud of them, we've always questioned players about their quality at Man United, but character and leadership.

'They showed character today - which I had questioned, and a lot of people have...you shouldn't listen to them pundits anyway! Take no notice of the pundits.'

Ten Hag said in response: 'But you told me!'

Keane then decided to point fingers at fellow pundits Ian Wright and Joleon Lescott.

'No, them two!' Keane laughed.

Ten Hag then went back to Keane and said: 'You had trouble to manage a team!'

'Ah, I won a Championship with Sunderland...give me some praise, ah come on! You're too harsh on me!' Keane said.

Ten Hag tried to explain 'what I said to you' before Keane jumped in to say 'I agree' as both men were able to share a laugh and a joke.

Many of Ten Hag's post match media commitments focused on his own future and whether that will continue to be at Manchester United.

Despite winning the FA Cup, Ten Hag was bullish when asked.

'I don't think about this,' he said when asked if Sir Jim Ratcliffe and United's board have already made up their mind.

'I'm in the project and we're exactly where we want to be. We're constructing a team. When I took over, it was a mess at United.

'The team is developing and winning trophies, and playing to an identity, but you need the players to be available.

'If they don't want me anymore, I'll go somewhere else and win trophies because that's what I've done my whole career.'

He added: 'It's always difficult to compare [to previous trophies] but the FA Cup, one on my bucket list.

'It's a huge trophy and so happy that we won this with players, team and staff. It was a team performance.'
